Christmas
2008 |
|
|
|
|
|
| Two years
ago, for the Christmas of 2006, I lamented the fact that it had,
once again, not been a white Christmas. But, in 2007, snow
arrived in abundance, and I was delighted to see it again in
2008. Beginning about December 9, storm after storm came,
lined up like planes on the runways at O'Hare Airport. Even
on Christmas morning, a heavy storm brought fresh snow; and, while
it made travel challenging, it brought out the spirit of the
season in me.
It was a wonderful Christmas,
spent with family in Friendship and with my Mom and sister on
Christmas Day. I had been sick for Christmas in 2007 and had
missed it entirely. It was good to get back to Christmas
again with my family! |

Christmases
Long Past |
|
|
|
|
|
I enjoy having more than one natural
tree, often adding an accent tree in a corner that needs some
sparkle. The following photos are from a number of Christmases
Past, and I'll provide descriptions below them. Just follow the
Roman numerals. The photos are all links to larger pictures. |

Photo I: From 2001, an all-time
favorite tree. The photo doesn't do it justice. The tree
appeared to have a large shelf or "skirt," with a thinner top
rising from it. It looked as though it had been cut in the forests
of Norway! |

Photo II: From 2002, an accent
tree, decorated with gold lights, gold Old World Christmas star
ornaments and tiny
glass lanterns, and Flower Fairy ornaments. |

Photo III: From 2001, a
close-up view of the Flower Fairies. These resin ornaments are
wonderfully detailed, with expressive faces. The designs are based
on original drawings by Cicely Mary Barker, an early 20th Century
Englishwoman, who was a renowned plants person, illustrator, and
poet. |

Photo IV: Circa 1994: My
first "Skinny Tree"! From a flower shop across the
street, these are actually the tops of fir trees being harvested in
Northern Wisconsin. I like to simply drape them with white, gold,
or lavendar lights and let them brighten a corner. |
