| Pipka Ulvilden is a well-known folk artist who makes
her home in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, on the Green Bay peninsula. She
extensively researches the history and traditions of Santa Claus figures
in countries around the world before beginning her uniquely detailed
designs. These are reproduction Santas, cast in resin, and they are
limited to 4,500 pieces or less per design.
In 1997, feeling bored and beginning to lose my
usually strong interest in Department56 villages, I cast around for new
collectible lines, and I found Pipka Santas. My first set, which
included her magnificent and highly sought after "Midnight
Visitor," was bought at half-price from a shop in Oklahoma.
Since that time, I have acquired a nearly complete collection of her large
Santas, along with many of the smaller figurines and accessories. |
